MUSCAT – Al Naba Group of Companies kicked off the New Year with a celebratory get-together that also saw management and senior staff stand shoulder to shoulder in a reaffirmation of their collective commitment to advancing the Group’s strategic and business growth objectives during 2016. Sayyid Khalid bin Hamed bin Saif Al Busaidi, Group Chairman, led fellow Board members and senior management colleagues at the get-together at the Banquet Hall of Oman Tourism College on January 2. The annual event, held at the start of each new year, is in line with a longstanding tradition that underscores the warm fraternal ties characterising the relationship between management and the company’s large workforce. Also in keeping with the spirit of the event, a number of long-serving employees of the Group were feted on the completion of 25 years and 10 years of service. They were presented with awards and gifts in appreciation of their dedicated services to the company, as well as a token of the esteem that the workforce enjoys in the eyes of the Group. Additionally, a number of employees were rewarded for outstanding workplace accomplishments and initiatives – part of a Group-wide incentive programme designed to keep the staff well-motivated and engaged. Exemplary staff were recognized for, among other things, ‘Teamwork Excellence’, ‘Meritorious Service’, ‘Bright Ideas’, ‘Behind the Scenes Excellence’, ‘Volunteerism’, ‘Neat and Clean Uniform’, ‘Exceptional Customer Service’, ‘Improving Efficiency’, and so on. Speaking on the occasion, Sayyid Khalid, Group Chairman, expressed sincere thanks to the management and staff for making common cause in supporting the achievement of the Group’s corporate growth objectives during the past year. He exhorted his top-level team to stay the course and to build on this success despite the challenging economic and business environment triggered by the slump in global oil prices. “Al Naba’s growth over the past decades has been underpinned by a combination of enterprise, innovative thinking, and hard work. We applaud our team, as well as each and every member of the multinational workforce that constitutes the Al Naba family – indeed our greatest asset – for their commendable contribution during the past year. As we ring in the new calendar year, I am confident that we will collectively rise to the challenge and deliver another superlative fiscal year,” the Chairman remarked. Corporate and business highpoints of the past year were captured in a striking video that was played at the start of the event. Department heads took turns in the video to outline their respective strategies for driving the Group’s overall success. A separate video, produced by the employees, offered their perspectives on the promising career and growth opportunities afforded by Al Naba to the Omani staff. Both videos encapsulate the impressive strides that Al Naba Group has achieved over the past three decades. Today, Al Naba Group ranks as one of Oman’s top 10 corporate brands with over 9,000 employees and a geographical footprint that spans not only the length and breadth of the Sultanate, but extends into the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar as well.

MUSCAT – Cricket teams representing Al Naba Group’s 10,000-plus strong multinational workforce battled for top honours in a hugely exciting in-house tournament that was held at the Group’s Al Misfah Camp grounds last week. Such was the success of the maiden hosting of the ‘gentleman’s game’ that the group is now weighing plans to field its own corporate cricket team to play professional cricket under the prestigious Al Naba brand. In all, eight teams representing the various camps as well as the head office that together make up Al Naba’s formidable footprint in the capital region, went head-to-head in back-to-back matches played over the weekend. While some teams selected names that reflected their work sites others chose creative and inspiring titles for their groups of eleven. Playing good old fashioned cricket, but with each game truncated to a maximum of seven overs per innings, the tournament saw the teams perform with indefatigable energy and true sportsmanship that belied their passion to win. For many on the field, the tournament was a bonding experience because it required them to work together and learn from one another. For others hailing from cricket crazy nations of Asia, playing the game served as a reminder of home. Mr. Rajesh Gonsalves, Head of the recreational committee and Senior Manager Human Resources commented,” We are heartened by the success of this first-ever tournament. There were many objectives behind the hosting of this event. For one, we wanted to encourage our staff to adopt sports as a vehicle for an active and healthy lifestyle. Secondly, we knew it would provide an opportunity for our large and diverse workforce to connect with each other. After all, bonds formed during recreational and fun occasions can develop into strong working relationships, which in turn bode well for productivity and staff morale.” The prize distribution ceremony saw the spoils of battle being proudly brandished by the respective winners. The prestigious Rolling Trophy went to AL NABA NETAJI BOYS - XI, while the Runners-Up Trophy was claimed by AL NABA STAR - XI. Mani of AL NABA STAR - XI was crowned ‘Man of the Series’ while Sadapthi of AL NABA NETAJI BOYS - XI took home the ‘Man of the Match’ trophy. The coveted ‘Best Team’ Trophy deservedly went to AL NABA KINGS - XI. Having displayed prodigious cricketing talent on the field, the teams’ performances will be carefully evaluated over the coming weeks and months to help weigh the feasibility of fielding a corporate cricket team that will proudly don Al Naba’s brand colours in professional cricket tourneys.
